about the only high-end manufacterer that i can think of who makes more than one component of a stereo system and who hasnt yet been associated with an automaker would be......Mcintosh.

i think this L7 thing is highly overpriced for what it sounds like,i am not impressed with mine at all, it was at a premium of 1800$-my A6 1999 had much better 1200$ premium Bose system...just my opinion...

Does anyone know if I can get my 8-track player hooked into the I-drive?
I remember seeing an LP player as a factory option in a late '50's or early '60's Buick in a car show!

I still have a turntable in my home theatre rack, although I can't remember the last time I used it--I have several boxes of albums in the garage somewhere...

I've got 2 turntables.... and over 5,000 records.

But.... I'm a DJ.... so that why.

I still say that if I was going to do a system in my E60.... I would go with Image Dynamics horns rather than component speakers.

Chrysler Corp offered an RCA 45 rpm turntable, that operated upside down, in 1959-61. I convinced my Dad ( a dealer) that we ought to have one in his demonstrator, so I ordered it through our parts department and installed it myself (hmm, age 14, I'd guess).

It was pretty goofy for all the effort involved, in that 45 rpms played all of, what, 4 minutes, then the arm retracted, it released that record into a tray below, and began playing the next. I'd guess you could put 6-8 records on that fat spindle. So, that'd get a half-hour's play (and change) time. Wasn't too affected by bumps, but all you had was that center-dash speaker.

Can't ever recall Dad saying that anybody else ever ordered one...

Given that, just how far have we advanced in 40+ years?

Cheers,
Ray Hull

PS, I'm suprised to see so many lack-luster comments about the L7. When I first tried it, compared to the standard system in my E39, and mentioned here that I felt IMO it was certainly NOT worth $1800 extra, everybody jumped up and down and said it was WONDERFUL. Well, I guess it falls into that realm known as "art." <_<

Actually there's a Mcintosh system that's optional in the Ford GT.

I would just like High Definition Stereo on the M5 -- by any manufacturer.
What's High Definition Stereo? I don't think there is such a thing...
