I'm looking for a silent, comfy and non-tramlining tyre - anyone
I seem to be going against the grain - but I swapped my goodyear f1's for conti sport contact 2's recently and much prefer the conti's for looks and grip.

The tread pattern on the f1's is quite distinctive, but the sidewall curve of the conti's really suits my wheels.

DSC is kicking in much less often now - especially in the wet - so definite improvement on grip.

(although this could also be simply the switch from half worn to brand new!)

No road noise from the back - although I think I amnow more concious of the noise from the front (pirelli pzero nero), but since they are only have worn I'll probably leave it a bit before chaning them.

The tyre manufacturer Hankook has enjoyed a good start to the 2006 season thanks to three very pleasing sets of results in summer tyre tests conducted by respected trade journals. Very diversified products from the Hankook range were put through their paces: the flagship, Ventus S1 evo, received a ?recommendable? rating from the trade journal sport auto, the volume model Ventus Prime K105 was classed as ?very good? by Gute Fahrt, a magazine for products from the VW Group, (Special award: GF recommendation) and the newcomer to the Hankook product family, the Optimo K415, earned a ?very recommendable? from the testers at Auto Zeitung. This is a very respectable set of results and represents an important sales argument for the German market. ?A very high level of grip and balanced ride characteristics in dry conditions? is how the editors at sport auto summarised the results for the Hankook Ventus S1 evo. The current issue (No. 3/2006, 17th February 2006) features a test of eleven ultra-high performance 225/40R18 summer tyres. The Hankook Ventus S1 evo is level-pegged with other leading tyre manufacturers. The differences in this segment are marginal which is why the results are extremely close to one another. The positive summary of the "eleven most sporty products" in this category concludes that "each one is a master of its trade?. In the supreme discipline of the very sporty-natured test, tyre handling in dry conditions, the Ventus S1 evo was placed in first position. Its high level of grip made it the quickest to complete the 1.8-kilometre course. In addition to assessing handling characteristics on dry road, the test also included other aspects such as driveability when pushed to the limits, steering precision, braking performance and aquaplaning behaviour, but the dry road disciplines remained the clear focus.

No way man, imo Michelin is way over Bridgestone imo. The results it had in 2004 and 2005 F1 seasons show exactly my point. PS2s are imo the best tires there are now on the market. The fact that they weight less than the very new Bridgestones also gives a clue to the level of performance.

Michelin is way behind their best times those days, there you really pay for the name only.
There have been a number of reports, including from ferrari test drivers, that the slower lap times of the F430 are due to the OEM bridgestones. They claim that if you put on pirellis that times should go down.

That aside, I think the bridgestone potenzas, SO3s and RE050As are quality tires.

I?m still looking for the non tramlining, silent and comfy tyre.

Just changed from my lovely 16" wintertyres to the RF?s...

I've had my first long autobahn trip to germany on those bridgestones.... they are awesome..... 18" and yet much more comfortable then 17" Runflats.....
also driven in some hard rain and they seems very good.

I have significantly low (almost none) DSC kicking in during accelerations as opposed to winter tires....

I must say pretty comfi tire but on a highway it is pretty stable and comfident.

I put the new Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position tires (245/35 F & 275/30 R) on new M5 style 19" wheels and had them mounted this afternoon.

Here's my initial impressions:

1) The wheels look way cooler than I thought they would. Man, oh, man those wheel are so sexy to see in person.

2) The wheel offsets look less pronounced than I expected. Yes, the front wheels stick out farther than the stock sport wheels, and yes, the rear wheels are slightly inset from the fronts. But this perspective is hardly noticeable in person. I don't think I'm going to take any steps to trim in the fronts or put spacers in back.

3) The 245/35 size front tires fill up the wheel wells nicely and look well-proportioned. No way anything larger goes in there.

4) The 275/30 size rear tires look OK, but 285/30 would be perfect. (Bridgestone doesn't make the larger size in these Pole Positions right now) As I look at the attached photos the rears do look ill-proportioned compared to the fronts. But this perspective looks much worse in a photo than it does in person. Walking up to the car (and glancing back at it, of course) the lower profile rear tires don't stand out at all. I like the set-up as it is.

5) While I drove only 35 miles on the new Pole Positions today, my first impressions are very positive. They are very quite and roll smoothly. I tested the grip in the cold rain and sleet and they held on brilliantly. (This is not a temperature these tires should be good in - but they performed beyond what you could physically expect). The handling is very crisp and right-now responsive - the best I've ever experienced. This is a very different tire than the stock RE050 run flats that came with the sport package. I can't wait for warmer weather.

Also, the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position tires are less expensive than Michelin PS2s (by about $30 per tire). And right now Bridgestone is running a $100 rebate for a set of 4 of these tires. So they seem to be a good value too.

EDIT: I should have looked this up before, but these Bridgestones are a heavy tire. The 245/30 weigh 27 lbs (compared to the PS2s at 23 lbs) and the 275/30 weigh 30 lbs (PS2s are 25 lbs). However, the car feels so nimble on the 166 wheels with these Pole Position tires that I can't say they drive heavy at all.
OMFG - that is a shiny looking car
