The rep was a little confused as well, she said press the wrench button next to the SOS button for roadside assistance. When I told her there is no wrench button she fumbled around some papers then said, oh right, you need to do that through the iDrive. Has anyone actually tried the service through SOS?

Oh, wait, I think there are two different things.

"Now, in addition to your BMW Assist Safety and Convenience services, simply press your SOS button to request
a navigation specialist for directions, traffic and weather information?all for just $4.95 per call. Take advantage
of this valuable new service to enhance your driving experience.
? Directions: Guidance to your destination or a point of interest.
? Traffic: Receive traffic reports around your BMW or along your route.
? Weather: Access to weather forecasts locally or at your destination."

Directions, Traffic and Weather you can get from SOS, but Concierge Services are the 800 number.
? Arrange dining or hotel reservations
? Plan a vacation or weekend getaway
? Get tickets to the game or concert

I wonder if there is a charge for the Concierge Services ?

I think that when you pay $60k US for a car you should get this for free. It should be a service that sets them apart from MB. I know that the reason that they charge is because in the US we haven't caught up with parts of Europe where this information is relayed via radio waves. So they actually have to investigate. But still. I will not pay per call. A monthly fee of $4.95 per month if I could use the SOS button. Yes!!

I made another post about the differences between the US and German options. Talk with the Iceman on what BMW Assist does in Germany. You would not believe what they do for their customers in Germany whereas in the US its all money, money, money.

I signed up, just for the heck of it. My build was too early for the navigation option. Has anyone ever used BMW Assist for directions and, if so, how was it?

To clarify, the concierge service is free with an annual subscription. Still waiting to use it!

I believe this is something that BMWs competitors are starting to offer; however, I don't know if they charge a fee. The new RL will have traffic and weather information available full time through its satellite (Sirius or XM) so that travellers can plan ahead for any detours or accidents, etc. A nice feature, but I don't know about the cost of $4.95/call.

I've used the "SOS" for directions once and was told by the operator that for future access I need to use the 1-800 number, not the SOS button. His explanation to me was that the "SOS" button is for emergencies only.

Having to dial 1-800 number completely turned me off from ussing or signing up for BMW Assist!!

But I would love to hear things have changed.

The website says that you can receive directions by pressing the SOS button.

I've never tried it. Too cheap to pay the $5.00. I'm going to wait until I'm really lost.
