She wasn't wearing a seat belt, the only person who was wearing one lived...

Very true, but since my accident I poop my pants when somebody (like my father in law) drives like he stole the car...

Ok y'all, if you go to www.wreckedexotics.com and click on 5 series BMW there are a few actual crash pics. From what I have read on the subtitles is that no one in any of these severe crashes has had anything more that minor injuries. 10-12 airbags makes a pretty darn safe car. I have 2 young'uns and I would not put them in my car if I was not certain that it offered superb protection.

the E60's re-test featured on the ITV (UK) news last night and according to EuroNcap results for the E60 are expected to be published end of November.

In theory, if BMW DO, (now they might not) have to modify structurally the E60's used in the tests, to achieve the desired results they then publish, where do us, as current E60 owners stand?

Lets say, worst case scenario, modifications to the body are needed to achieve 5star rating, surely a car manufacturer is not allowed to publish figures and expect existing owners to just accept it? If a saftey flaw is found in cars already produced related to the design of the car, i can imagine a retrofit "fix" would be hard todo if the fix involves altering the integral chassis/body.

I know this is pessimistic and we should wait to see what happens, but just wanted to hear some thoughts.

just to add......lets get BMW onto this !!! called BMW UK and they claimed to know nothing, in fact asked what EURO NCAP was.

so for those in uk get emailing customer.service@bmw.co.uk and ask them to look into this...the more emails the better.

again worst case scenario, need to protect our ???, suppose the E60 DID require a structural change that was NOT retrofittable to existing cars...what do you think that would do to the residual values of our cars??? nothing nice at least.

again this could all be total press rumour and the E60 may be fine, but given the Autocar and now TV coverage seems worthwhile being proactive and "kicking" bmw to respond to existing customers.

I for one would not be looking forward to trade in time if I knew that all E60's built before a certain date were considered by private buyers and trade as being the "less safe one". You just know the dealer would screw you on the price.

Now the EURO-NCAP results are official:

http://www.euroncap.com/content/safety_rat...p?id1=6&id2=208

The E60 received a 4 star rating after rather significant changes to steering column, footrest, door trim, door latch, airbags and software. How bad is then the car before these changes? What will be done to improve the safety of the cars manufactured before these changes were made??
