If it happens, it'll be interesting to see if BMW gives up it's latest technology or keeps it for themselves. Even if it sells GM engines that are a few years old in development or design, they'll still be light-years ahead of the stuff GM is putting out...

Engine: Custom Remus cat-back exhaust w/chrome square tips, K&N Air Filter, Charcoal Filter Removed, Sprint Booster :-), 50/50 mix of 91+100 Octane, EuroRev ECU Remap (coming soon lol), Dinan High-Flow Throttle Body (coming soon...maybe lol)
Interior: Portable Sirius Stilletto 100 w/car kit, Garmin Nuvi 680 mounted below rear-view mirror, LCI-style I-drive knob, Dark Poplar Center Dashboard Trim.
Exterior: E60 forum clings, 5% rear tint, ACS roof spoiler (painted black for distinct look against limo tint), ACS trunk spoiler, ACS add-on front spoiler and rear apron (awaiting installation), "18 Black Staggered BeBeS Style OER (emergency replacement for cracked sport 124 rims), black kidney grill, white accessory lighting (including license and trunk lamps), Angel-eye upgrade, AIB xenon-matched fog lamps, AIB V3's on order, red rear reflectors
Well...BMW is cutting 8100 jobs - 7.5% of their total staff. If selling a few low-end engines helps generate enough profit to ensure there is enough continued revenue for R&D and high-end development projects, I say go for it. Somewhere there's financial internal bleeding. I'd rather see BMW remain profitably independant, than become a pawn in some conglomerate's portfolio.

There is nothing new about this.
You need to know that in the past BMW has sold for example Diesel engines to Opel (part of GM). Few years back you could buy a new Opel Omega diesel (not that any right-minded would ) with BMW 6-cylinder engine here in Europe.
I don't think this move makes BMW look bad, only the competitors may benefit from better engines.

I hope this will not happen.
why sell the main heart of the company.
it will make BMW engines trademark look low end of the market.
I think it is wise to keep a this trademark product to yourself and not give it to your competitors.
Please all of you tell me what you guy & girls think of this.

The only engine Fiat Group might need is a diesel V8 for the Maserati Quattroporte if they will decide to equipe it with a diesel .
Otherwise... A good 6 cilinders diesel for the new Alfa Romeo 169 that will be released in some years .
For the rest .. They have good little diesel engines (from 1.3-90 HP to 1.9-200 HP) and all the petrols they want (Maserati/Ferrari) .

If no, then I wouldn't say BMW is light years ahead of GM.
Vortec and LS type engines are both solid GM products that perform just as well as any BMW motor, require less maintenance (which is very user friendly) and cost thousands less.

Hopefully more engines = reduced cost per engine = less expensive BMWs
