BMW E60/61 '07 facelift...

As per this article: http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphotos.cfm/...ift-latest-pics the facelifted 5 series in spring '07, will have a new auto gearbox:



The one above looks like the new SMG gearbox. Can anyone confirm if it will be the same for the steptronic as well?

Nope, in the picture it's NOT the SMG it is the Automatic!

You're right mate. That's great news. I quess I have to wait till next year's facelift for my new 520d E61.

What are the benefits over the excisting one. Will it make a big difference?

In the pic of the original post, the part that surrounds the gear selecter isn't fully in the center console. Are we sure that this isn't just someone having a little bit of fun?

It IS a prototype BMW, used for testing. Not just "somebody" having fun, but not everything that you see on such cars will make it to the production.
This shifter has been seen in spypics on the new X5 and the facelifted E60/E61 as well as on the F10...
