I don't think the 135 needs an M version. The thing is a beast without another 100HP or whatever.
All car companys in the near future will be down sizing/going green/whatever you want to call it all because of the stricter laws.
But BMW will always keep there hertiage of being the Ultimate Driving Machine at all cost.

However i think they should really think hard before adding a little twist to that.
IMO NO they will not dump M cars or whatever. If you ask me BMW doesn't even need to go into the hp race, they need only to keep providing relative powerfull cars with excelent handling, decent fuel consumptions and well..passion to steer the soul.
PS: If you come to think of it BMW never shined with astronomical hp/torque ratings. I can't say the same thing about MB or even Audi.

Damn, from reading the thread title. I thought this was going to say BMW was going back to lightweight back-to-basics cars. You know, how they acquired the slogan Ultimate Driving Machines.

I think you're right, but it's changing. Diesels aside, the only MB and Audi models that really fell into this category featured forced induction. MB and Audi cars without FI broadly tracked the equivalent BMW model. With the new TT I6 and TT V8 engines, BMW is really playing the same game.
Also i don't think we will get the same high rpms if BMW goes turbo on M cars. That alone is a thing to regret.
The new addition to the family, the new X6 V8 TT is very very nice (yes i'll post in a thread soon, when the weather gets better to take some proper pics) but the read line arrives too soon. I so much long for a 8000+ rpm redline.

Oh come on!!! With all due respect, I'm getting sick and tired of all this environmental carbon footprint crap! Yes we should/will protect the earth but if the govt was that concerned about it, they'd do something about all the buses and major polluting factors... not just the 10,000 M5's in the States.
Sick of it!!

Speculations that BMW will meet Audi's R8 can now be killed. According to Klaus Draeger, Product Manager, BMW will not join the horse race with Audi and M-B, instead they will shift focus to environmental friendly products under the Effecient Dynamics umbrella. Klaus Draeger also said in the same interview in AutoTelegraaf that is unlikely that there will be an M1 (!).
