The 525 will have a 215 hp 3.0 ltr while the 530 will have a 255 hp version 3.0 ltr. The reason stated was that BMW was concerned US consumers are considering a 2.5 ltr in a 5 to be underpowered.

They are right in their assumption, most Americans wouldn't touch a 2.5 liter in a car of this class. They are making the right move, just wish they'd done it from the beginning of the E60 line-up.

I saw that in a press release that someone on the board placed here. But, in that article, they still named the car the 525i, leaving the 530i label for the 255hp engine.

Will this hold true, or will they change the name from 525 to something else?

If there would be a 3liter with reduced output co-existing with the 255hp engine it would definitely not be named 530i.

In Europe a low performance 525i will be named 523i - and it's been that way for years with the E36, E39 and other models.

They probably should just leave the name... makes more sense... although both are 3.0L but they dont have the same HP you cant have them both be called 530.

In the Autoweek article it says that it will still be named 525 even though it deviates from BMW's normal nomenclature.
