Sorry, it was said tongue in cheek, everytime I see your posts it is Merc this or Merc that, probably jus the posts I have seen of yours.
And I do think you are a wind up merchant, as do many other members on here I am sure, including yourself.
I obviously upset you with my comment, I didn't mean to.

ALL IS fair mate. dont worry
Coolio.
I did just go and look at the figures for the 650Ci Cab though, and 5.8 seconds to 60mph, so it is slower than mine on paper.
There is no way anyone can compare the M5 with the 535d, no matter what you do with it tuning wise, the M5 is a monster.
When you look at the figures you see just how much quick the M5 is, in standard form the 535d does 0-100mph in around 17 seconds, after a remap you are down to 13 seconds. But look at the M5, that does it in just over 8 seconds FFS!!!
If you did a 1/4 mile run with an M5 and a 535d the 535d would only just be over the half way mark by the time the M5 had crossed the line!!

of course the M5 will be more fun, more refined and quicker, its in a different league to the M5
the M5 is also in a different league to the 550i
for me it would be an easy choice, i'd take the 535d of the petrol varients (apart from the M5), and i'm not just saying that, i really do mean it
i personally think its silly comparing the 535d to the M5

Well I left a 650Ci over a 4 or 5 mile stretch of dual carrigeway with a couple of roundabouts in between, and he said he just couldn't keep up. Maybe he had a friday afternoon car or something.
This is my "underpowered" 645Ci compared to stock 535d. 650i should be even better. If this was a 650iC then it should be back down to my results.
But to reiterate my position - I wish we could lay hands on the likes of 535d (635d too if they had'em) here in US. Mighty fine alternative for many of us wanting to consider other options.

BTW Rob from DMS was quoted saying the he beat a 550bhp RS6 at the VMAX fairly easily with his DMS m5... same BMWCar Mag
You'll find a link below to the confirmed (timing beam) VMAX speeds
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...23246&f=133&h=0
The only difference over the few times we went head to head came down to who got the jump from the start, excluding that, the cars were matched exactly at all points for acceleration (from standstill) from 50MPH & top speed as you can see from the link.
If you have the article or quote, by all means post it & i'll take this story up with Rob, as the facts tell a very different story to what you're quoting, so i'm struggling to believe you as you're very wrong. Facts are a wonderful thing
NB: For those not familiar with VMAX, the event is to test maximum or close to maximum speeds down a 1.7mile runway at Bruntingthorpe. The timing equipment is set as far down the runway as is safe to allow for a fairly safe braking distance. The cars that regularly attend are failry exotic being mainly Porsche, TVR & Ferrari, with a few other exotica thrown in for good measure. The normal starting point is opposite to the actual runway so you get a standing start for about 800yards, down to a 180 degree hairpin that you can exit at around 75MPH (more for the lighter cars) then onto the main straight for a VMAX run, their is then a braking area & some fun twisties on the way back to the starting point.
The main head to head run i had with Rob's DMS M5 was from a standing start, but starting at the bottom of the main runway & although the on this main run Rob had an ever so slightly better launch (i did not run a launch control to protect the gearbox & just floored mine in sport mode), we stayed matched for the entire run (Rob was about 2ft in-front due to his slightly better start) & we both crossed the line at 176MPH for that run less than 1/2 second apart. The speeds on the VMAX link are our best speeds on the day & again we both managed 181MPH. The entire attendance witnessed this run along with the other runs & the DMS M5 was no quicker or slower all day than my RS6.
