Hello All,

I am new to BMW's. I did some searching on the internet and came to this place. I'm still confused as to what I have and it's classification. I have a 1985 535i. Is it a E60, M28?

I hope everbody is in good health and had a nice weekend.

Thanks,
Gtuni

Welcome Gtuni . I think you have an E28. Maybe now would be an excellent time to think about an E60? Either way, welcome aboard.

Thanks.

I just bought the "E28"? just last week. A co-worker had it sitting in her garage for many years.

I thought I would rescue it and try and get it drivable. It has 213,000 miles in it and starts, but needs some tuning up before I can drive it. It idles at 1500 rpm's and when I touch the throttle it starts into this cycle where it will rev high (about 1800 rpm) then low (about 500rpm) every couple of seconds. like it's bi-polar or something.

Good idea though, maybe after I get it drivable and cleaned up, I could trade it up.

Oh yeah...Is this the wrong board for an older BMW? Does anyone here have one that old?

Welcome Gtuni!

While I won't say this is the "wrong" board for an E28 owner and you're welcome to hang out with us as long as you want, I will say that we probably won't get into too many in-depth discussions about the older models. This board is clearly very E60 centric and the majority of members here either own or are planning to own one. That said, there may be some members here who either have or had an E28 so it may not be impossible for you to get help if you need it.

Hopefully, you can get any/all questions you might have answered here but there are probably other forums that have a higher concentration of E28 owners that have more collective experience driving or owning that model.

Good luck with your "project" and hope you're able to hang with us for a while!

Thanks gentlemen.

GPS - I will post some pics as soon as I can.
Rudy - You are right, I did find a board that had a higher concentrion of E28 owners. But, I saved this board as a favorite ad will visit to keep up on the newer models and topics. BTW How do you like your Sirius radio?
Pittsburgh, your about 5 hours east of me. Are you a Stern Fan?

Glad you found what you were looking for Gtuni.

Sirius is great for me -- I rarely have a need for CD's in the car now (although I just recently had MP3 retrofitted so now I've been playing with that a little more...)

I was never a huge Stern fan (listened to him enough to decide I didn't need to listen to him anymore) but since he came on to Sirius, I do check him out a bit more and he's actually much different than I thought he'd be on satellite.

If I'm five hours east, you must be near Indy. How'd I do?

Close, just too far south. I'm in Detroit. I travel to Virginia about once a year and drive right by Pittsburg.
One night the wife and I spent a night in Pittsburg and hung out downtown around the old depot area. That was a real happining spot.

Well I'm a bit literal, I suppose. If you had said I was five hours southeast, I'd have been in Detroit for sure. I like Detroit -- I used to go to Detroit yearly for the CART race at Belle Isle. Unfortunately, I don't go there much anymore since they don't hold that race these days...

Yeah, my mistake. I was too general.

Isn't it interesting (in a certain view) that Detroit builds a footaball stadium, but can't afford to keep the Zoo open or teachers working or some of the functions they used to on Belle Isle.

Maybe one has nothing to do with the other.

Well, I'm off to find an oxygen sensor and try my luck at that.
