There is no contempt for the new 3, it's just an issue with BMW of North America and what they package with the cars or give people the "honor" of being able to order. For example, if someone buying a US E60 wants folding mirrors BMW NA will not let them have it at any price, even though folding mirrors have been available on the E60 everywhere else. Yet on the new US 3 series BMW NA includes the folding mirrors in one of the option packages. Now as far as I know BMW NA did not even add this feature on the 2006 models. I was at the BMW VDC tour on Saturday and there was a fully loaded 550i on display and it did not have the folding mirrors either.

So the frustration is with BMW NA, not the new 3 or even BMW AG.

I think the same is true regarding the rear bumper reflectors. This seem to not have anything to do with DOT regulations but BMW NA making bogus decisions.

I took a long test drive in a 330i and then a 530i last week. For my 6'4" 180 lb frame the 3 series Sports seats were perfect; much better than my 03 M3 and better than the 5 series. The e90 really impressed me from both a handling and a comfort standpoint.

I think it's more BMW trying to maintain their stand as the top sedan in its class. There are only a few of us, if any, that would choose an E90 over an E60 because of a few options. I admit i feel a little bit cheated that I have to pay +-$200 for an aux port that's not even in the center console. E60s don't even have the lighter in the center console like the E90s have. At least BMW doesn't charge E60 buyers $475 extra for choosing metallic paint.

I like how the cigarette lighter is hidden from sight. Admittedly, I never use the thing, not even to charge my cellphone so I would rather have the dashboard without it. Gives it a cleaner look and finish.

As for the price for metallic paint, I wish you were right, but my better judgement tells me BMW figured-in the price of the metallic paint into the final MSRP. They just didn't give you the option to "not" pay for it.

Yeah, I'm looking at the sheet that BMW tapes to your window (for my car) and it lists the metallic paint as "Included". Funny thing I just learned looking at this is the Glass moonroof is also "Included". I didn't know that was standard for every e60.

Moon roof I knew... as of 2005 I think ALL BMWs including the 3 series were comming with Fogs and Moonroof as std.

Also, if you choose steptronic on an E90 it's $1275. No charge on an E60 for any transmission. Not sure how BMW decides what options to charge for and which ones to include.
