So I've been driving an X3 loaner for a little bit now, waiting for my dealer to finally fix things. 3rd time is a charm I guess.

Anyway, in order for me to drive the "same" in the X3 as in my 545i, I basically have to keep my foot on the floor the whole time, and have the tranny in DS mode. This marginally gets me the same movement of the car I'm used to. I'm not saying I race around at top throttle all the time in my e60, just that I appreciate solid acceleration to the sleepy "am I moving yet" response from similar throttle settings in the X3.

That said, I've noticed that I don't get any better gas mileage from the X3. Sure, blame it on the 4WD, or whatever. Fact is, I can drive like this with my e60, with barely quarter throttle use.

Anyone ever consider any of this? I never thought of fuel economy much in this way.

Totally agree, my neighbour had and X5 3.0 .mine is a 4.4 ,we did a mutual comparison of mileage over 500km and they were absolutely identical, I drove her X5 a couple of times and it always needed a little more throttle, my conclusion was that the 6's had to work harder thus no measurable difference in fuel economy.I think that the posted stats don't show a big difference either....
Cheers

+1 just let the car roll to the red lights to save fuel, no need to put foot down all the time
I get about 530 km in the city now
