If I was going to change from a 5er it would be to the 3er coupe M-Sport on 19s, i.e. the car you are looking at. Its a beautiful car and does not fall under the normal 3er image. You will not have the space or comfort you get in the 5er, but because its coupe I think its a sacrifice I would accept. (I'd go for Saphire Black, but I think that's irrelvant with this discussion!) If money and practicality are not an issue, why not?

So what are you getting in March 2009 after the 3er?

EDIT: Just saw you posted whilst I did, if you went for an auto now and then the DCT came, you would be pretty frustrated, but with a manual it wouldn't hurt as much! Are you sure the DCT will come on the 320d??
DCT has to come. The 3 series still has the old style tranny. Theynever switched to thejoystick style because i am assuming that they will be first to get the DCT, and viola, the 335 got the DCT. The DSG is offered in every golf, so i dont see why BMW is making a big fuss out of it.

In the 3 series, the manual tranny in the 2.0 Diesel is very driveable (unlike in the 520 where the car starts to vibrate below 1500 revs, so in the city, you can take turns in the 3rd gear)but regardless, the dual tranny is the future of cars..

talking about it, I think i am going to go for it, though everytime i see my 5 nowadays, I think i will be missing it...

hmmm. Well, my better half just had a go at me: It turns out, in the worst case, if i traded in my 520dA, I would have to pay about EUR 6500 on top for the 320dA. Obviously, I would hope to sell in privately in the next 8 weeks, but it would be irresponsible of me not to assume the worst case scenario... I had real difficulty justifying the 6 grand to her, honestly, i am sceptical myself. What pisses me off - 6 months ago, I could have gotten the 320d instead of the 520dA at no extra charge - 6 months later, it is costing me 6 grand

BMW has a new scheme, whereby you can go online (www.BMW.de) and ask a BMW employee to lease a car for you for 6 months, **you choose the spec**, and then purchase it from BMW as a used car (Jahreswagen). Maybe that could be a way of getting what you want, without being the one who always takes the initial hit on the car's depreciation??

There are ways of changing your car every 6 months without taking such a hit on the money -- the obvious approach would be to avoid that initial big hit in value the minute a new car leaves the show room

Alternatively, just get back to enjoying that beauty of yours a while longer...

Well I went to the dealer and told him that I will pass this time, though the offer was very sweet. In total, something like 24% for a new car (different bonuses that just added up to the normal scheme). Even so, I did not manage to convince my better half last night, so it was going to be a no-go. HOWEVER, i told him, as soon as there is the new coupe with DCT in a diesel, he should call me and let me know where to sign

In hindsight, we are all geniuses. Although you didn't get the E92 320d, you still own a fabulous car, modded the way you like!
