is E90 M3 top speed electronically limited?

My Ride: 07' 550i sport; Sapphire Black/Auburn; sport package; steptronic; navigation with R.T.T.I.; heads up; cold weather package; Logic-7; BMW MOST ipod kit; Motorola V3 snap-in adapter; rear heated seats and rear shades; anthracite headliner; sirrius sat. radio; M-aero kit; OEM style 166 Wheels with 245/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear Michelin PS2s.
Look at this:
My 550i with stage 1 software and a K&N will hit 175 according to Steve Dinan. I thought the M3 was limited at 155? (It's my friend's M3 cabrio)

All BMWs are limited to 155mph. Your friend's car might have had some software or speed limit defeater installed.
Of course, I have to have a talk with him. He's got the 4x4 syndrome (where you go fast in the snow because the traction is there to accelerate, but you're exceeding the car's braking and handling capabilities). Well he's taking for granted how solid an M car is. Meanwhile he has no experience with high speed manouvers, judging stopping distances from triple digit speeds, managing brake fade etc...
