So we got jeff saying handling sucks..soc says its allrite except the brakes...no cls man! im not crazy enough to drive one of this car to my school since its downright ghetto..its a weekend car
true about the comfort soc mentioned...need a driver to drive this to school..that would just be awesome...i think i have to test drive the e55 to get a handle of the car...
my dad was complaining to me about the 650 as its not the most practical car
anybody knows the feeling of driving a v12?
e55
pros:HP, torque,smaller car,practical,straight line race car!!
cons:brakes?,handling?,facelift on the 2007(anyone heard this rumor)?
760
pros:luxury,v12,handling
cons:size(a bit too big),a heftier price tag, older engine
650
pros:handling,model
cons:not very practical
anybody care to add?

The V12 in the 760 is sweet -- very linear torque curve and the acceleration of the car is smooth and effortless. Another benefit of BMW's amazing direct injection V12 is the gas mileage you get -- I believe it's on par, if not better, than the V8 model. Braking on the 760 is fine for everyday, street use, but when pushed a bit hard it can get touchy.
The E55 is a completely different beast. To those who say it doesn't handle well, I can't imagine what you would consider a better road performance car. In the same class, I think the E55 outhandles both the RS6, CTS-V and Jag S-Type, with the E39 M5 edging it by a nose. But where the E55 really shines is in the torque dept -- the E55 puts out 500+ lbs/ft of amazing torque. And you reach peak torque all before the tach hits 3000 rpm. Also, I've never found the brakes to be lacking on any AMG car.
If you go inside, I think MB wins hands down. I've never been a fan of the E65 7er layout (oh, the good ol'days of the driver-centric console ..., but I digress), but what really irks me about the 7er (and most of the new BMW models) is the lack of quality materials used in comparison to the MB models.
So this is my breakdown of the two cars:
760
Pros: Sweet engine, good gas mileage (for a car weighing nearly 5000 lbs)
Cons: weak interior layout and materials
E55
Pros: Power and torque, nice exhaust tone
Cons: Bit overpriced (i.e., the 760 is a better bargain)
By the way, I understand that the entire E-class will have a major overhaul come 2007/8.
I have no opinion on the 6er -- except I think it looks like a beached whale on wheels.

My Ride: 2003 X5 3.0----->gone
2004 Porsche Cayenne S : Gemballa front and back bodykit, fabspeed bypass pipes, Gemballa exhaust pipes, full option, 20" factory sport design rims------>gone
2005 545i 6-spd manual---->de-badged, CDV removal, Autosolutions short shift kit, resonator removal, premium package, PDC, xenon, almost full options, hardwire V1 install ....looking for mods...
2007 550i 6-spd----> Premium package, sport package, Logic7, heated everything, Rogue Engineering SSK, CDV removal, hardwire V1 install, aFe cold air intake, Custom Magnaflow exhaust....
Hmmmm.....I still stand by my comment that E55 handles lousier than the E39 M5 , E60 545 and CLS 500.....unless maybe the E55 i drove had steering problems

Thanks for your input ipse dixit..my friend excatllly said the same thing about the 6 series
but somehow i do not agree for the e55 being overprice..for about 95k car compare to the 115k 760i i think the e55 is not that bad...

Hey, I just noticed your sig and the fact that you have an E63 on order. Hope you didn't take offense to what I said about the 6er ... Cool car, just not for me.

Never drove a 760i (had a 740i sport for 4 years). Not a big fan of the current 7er styling--even after facelift.
I had an '03 W211 E55--sold it after 4 months--hated it. Numb steering, terrible handling, and horrific brakes (even MB apparently agrees--they're not in the new S class). Scary fast, very nice interior & exterior design--pretty significant facelift in MY07. Certainly not as roomy as a 760i.

I enjoy my 545i sport much more than the E55.

lookkss so close to the new s-klasse...if it turns out good im gonna wait for it
I might go for this as well. With the upcoming S-class, I think we'll have a good idea on the performance of the 5.5L motor. A competitively priced E550, with a reported 382HP, is definitely one I will be considering.

Well...except...it drives like a...Mercedes. Even the AMG tuned E55 driving experience was horrible--I can only imagine how uninspired the base E class is.
