It's no mystery that Elvis Presley liked Cadillacs. However, his affinity for a certain German drop-top is a little less known. Perhaps that's because the car itself, the BMW 507, is a relatively obscure model. The German automaker only produced 254 of them.

Before the convertible you see above was leased by The King during his days as a GI in Germany, it lived a fascinating - but rough - life. It was a 1957 Frankfurt Motor Show display, a hillclimb race car, and a press fleet vehicle. It eventually received a rebuilt 3.2-liter V8 and a new transmission and windshield. The two links below vary as to whether Elvis had a white 507 repainted red, or he just swapped the ivory roadster for the one pictured in this post. However, they both state that Elvis was tired of women scrawling their phone numbers in lipstick on the paler color. Poor guy!
