Hello

I have a 2000 540i and we are going to leave the car in our garage in Ohio over the winter while we go to Florida.
The battery is in the trunk so I am looking for advice on how to hook up a battery charger/maintainer. Should I just hook it up and try to close the trunk lid?
I would leave the trunk open except there are two small lights in the trunk. Perhaps I should take the bulbs out and leave the trunk open a bit.

The manual says take the battery out but I have seen all sorts of posts where people use chargers even overnight when cars are not used much and BMW even sells a charging unit.

Love my car.....Thanks for any help.

Recommended connection point for a trickle charger is under the hood at the jump-start point. Be certain you use the automatic type maintainer. I don't feel is is required or recommended that you remove any lamps or leave any door or trunk open. That may prevent the car from going to sleep. Last, but not least, be certain that there is no possibility that little critters can get into your garage. Mice can really do a number on stored cars!

Thanks,

I was wondering if using the jump post made sense. I saw one comment on using it as the recommended place for the charger but it was only a small comment...

Yes, you will want to connect the charger to the posts located on the driver's side of the car near the firewall. The positive terminal has a big red plastic cover. Use the bare metal post for the negative connection.

I bought my charger from Amazon and paid a whole lot less for it then buying the same thing with the BMW logo on it.
