Hi there...

Just purchased a 2005 545i...all I can say is "awesome car"!

My question is this. It has the steptronic tranny, and I was wondering what is really going on when I switch from regular drive mode "D" to sport mode, or "DS". The owners manual really doesnt discuss it much, other tha to say it is for sportier driving...I know the manual mode allows you to shift on your own, I just wonder what the advantage is to the sport mode. I do notice a change in how it shifts (I think), but I'm wonder how and why?

Thanks in advance!

I think it changes the shift points. Higher in the RPM range

Sport mode just raises the shift points and gives you a little more aggressive driving feel. You're right about the "awesome" part...

Welcome assassin307!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forget the owners manual. Ask the forum, it tells all.

in DS mode with CIP version 12.1 ... the shift point is longer and you feel the gear holds untill it reaches maximum rpm range ... and the adaptive trasmission adapt to your driving style .. so for example if you apply sudden brake then the transmission down shifts the gear to make your braking more controlable.

in CIP ver 15 and above the gear become somther and I can't feel the adaptive trasmission adapting as earlier mention ^

little bit out from the topic

Welcome assassin307, I have not flipped a page in the owner's manual since I joined this forum!

Cheers on your 545i.
