My Ride: 2004 Dinan 5 2006 X3 1983 SL380
Default

Hello All,

I purchased my 1st BMW about 2 years ago. 2004 545I. Shortly after purchasing I had the local BMW Dinan Dealer instal the Dinan hi flow intake system, free flow exhaust system, high flow throttle body, front strut tower brace, Dinan Pedal Pads and the Stage 3 Software. Performance is awesome and gas mileage increased to 29.7 on the road. Also sounds totally bad. My wife loves the car so much that I hardly get to drive it anymore... hopefully I'll be looking for an M5 in the near future.

August of 2008 we purchased a 2006 X3 for our daughter - I like this one too... but just not for me. Should get her well thru college. For now I'm stuck driving our 1983 SL380.

Any tips for locating a good year or two old M5 would be much appreciated - just can't swing the new one now.

I look forward to using this site in the future.

Best Regards,

Welcome to the forum.

I did the same thing as you. My previous car was also a 2004 545 with the exact same Dinan mods except I also had the rear strut brace. I sold the car with all those mods on it except for the strut braces which were transferred to my M5.

With regards to buying a slightly used M5, if you're looking for an '06, try to get a later build one as there have been cases of the earlier build models having SMG and VANOS issues. Also, stay away from lemon buybacks that resulted from those issues because you'll have problems selling it later on. Please note that BMW does not offer extended warranty on the M5 so you might want to find a newer, low mileage vehicle so that you have more warranty left on the clock. Other than that, everything else should be obvious, like checking carfax and service records.

Good luck man! You'll be ecstatic once you make the move. I've been smiling ever since I got the beast.
