Bergen County is not particularly mountainous, but there definitely is a strong Dutch presence in our history. The first European settlements here were led by the Dutch as early as the 1600s with Henry Hudson. Bergen County is directly adjacent to (and across the Hudson River from) New York City (New Amsterdam) so there are several Dutch-named places around here. I don't know whether Bergen County was named after Bergen, Norway, or Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands. But it's a nice place to live

Regards to Amsterdam and Alphen aan den Rijn. I hope I get to visit again soon!
