Hi there, I thought I'd post an introductory message as I've just sorted out a new 2008 535d...

The new car replaces my M6 which was, truthfully, the best car I've ever owned but was just too impractical and was spending too much time sitting still rather than being driven as it should be. So, I wandered into the local BMW dealer on Friday and the first thing I spotted was an 08 535d in carbon black with a black leather interior and a reasonable set of options. It was allegedly bound for the local BMW divisional manager and had been in the showroom for just an hour.

One quick test drive and 20 minutes negotiation later and I'll be swapping cars this week once they've fitted a tracking device and a tow hitch so I can mount a cycle carrier on the back. Delivery times at the moment would have meant August, so as a creature of instant gratification I''m pretty pleased.

Spec is:

E60 535d A M Sport Saloon
Carbon black / black Dakota leather
Visibility package
Media package
M double spoke 172 19" wheels
Electric glass sunroof
Auto dim int + ext mirror
Front seat heating
Anthracite bamboo wood
Extended interior light package
High beam assistant
DAB digital radio
Hi-fi loudspeaker system
M rear spoiler
Sun protection glass

After running in I'm going to be sorely tempted with a DMS upgrade, but even on the test drive the wall of torque was pretty apparent.

I'll post pictures in a few days.

Congrates, on the new car. I'm sure you'll love it. If you dont mind me asking, did you do a straight swap. Also what was the price its was on display for?

I'm going for a remap tomorrow with chippeduk. The reason why i picked them over DMS, was the extra gain but the lower cost is also big plus. I'll be posting the result on here.

Yes, congrats on your purchase!

Mine is due next week - been waiting since early january! The 172s seem to be this years alloy of choice - i've a loan car of a 530d at the moment in carbon black with black leather and it has them - as have most of the staff 5 series in my local dealership.

I have ordered them on mine - its silver with black leather.

Yes, very seriously contemplating the DMS remap myself.

Sticker price was just on ?50K OTR but I'm getting a few K back from the deal with the M6.

Yep, like I said, the best car I've ever owned. But I only really ever used all that power once -- the rest of the time I'm either driving stop start in London traffic (7 mpg!) or else on a long straight road. I think the 535d is a more sensible choice. I'm clearly getting old!

Well, I wouldn't call the 535d underpowered...

Congrats to your purchase; when both brain and heart are active in a purchase you cannot go wrong!
