Hey everyone - new member and just purchased a 545i and i love it unconditionally.
I already have an issue within the first few hours of ownership! The I-Drive says i have a flat tire!
What do you do with this?

 

welcome. 1st time that happened to me, it was just a fault of the tpm. check if you have a nail or anything. if anything i would try to set the tire pressure myself, then set the ftm in the idrive. if it happens again, get it checked. enjoy the forums.

 

Yup, check all your tire pressures with a gauge and make sure they're set to what you want them to be. Once you've established that they're at the proper pressure, go into the iDrive settings menu and find the FTM or TPM screen (depending on the year of your car) and reset the system. You should initiate the reset/reinitialization from a standstill then drive around a few miles until the screen changes from something like 'initializing' to something like 'active'.

Once you do that, you should be good to go unless you have a slow leak in a tire or something else is malfunctioning...

Well if you have bought it 2nd hand, it's very likely the previous owner got a puncture before they sold it, but did not want to go to the expense of getting a new tyre fitted. If it was a slow puncture (most are), all they had to do was top up the air and reset the TPM a day or two before selling it on. It could easily last a few days before the warning pinged up. I know of people who have done this... what I would say is get it STRAIGHT to a dealer, if you have a nail or something in the tyre they can usually say how long its been in there for. The longer you leave it, the harder it gets to give an accurate estimate. If you had the flat tyre within a few hours, you should ideally have taken it straight back to where you got it from, at the very least I would be looking at a 50/50 share of the replacement cost.
