Yes I understand Lee what your trying to say. I acknowledge that not everyone is going to have a walkie talkie. But thats why I also imposed the group system, so that travelling in smaller groups will prevent people from being lost. Knowing that some members will be tempted to speed (i.e me), if you travel in a smaller pack, people will be less likely to be lost. We will be all near each other, but what the leader of each group will do is be responsible to keep everyone together and make sure everyone is travelling at the same pace. Im not saying you can't use your cell phone, feel free to exchange numbers. Just that travelling in a big group is a bad idea.

Using radios is easier because it's direct connect and basically one button to push instead of trying to dial someone's number. Of course, if you're out of range, you have no choice but to use cell phones.

Whatever you do, let's not try to multi-task and use both at the same time.

At the LA meet, we will see who wants to be in whos group. There will be 5-6 groups (each consisting of 4-5 cars).
Its like playing following the leader. hey, everyone is going to arrive at the same place.

well it was hard for me to distinguish whos who during the other meets (while caravaning)
so if we run into another group on the road i may get confused
i think you guys know whats on whos car basically and can tell....

No comments about my post a little while back? I'm telling ya, a big group of cars will make the drive up more enjoyable. Driving with a big group of cars from the forum is just cool in itself. Along with that, it makes for good video and pictures, everyone can joke around on the radios, people can choose to do runs with each other if they choose to. A whole lot of things really. No need to limit things to groups of five.

Staggering groups works in the canyons and city streets, but on the highway, one large group is best.

Also with a small group, you'll be limited in the speed you wish to drive. You pretty much have to stay within the speed of the group, not to fast or to slow. If you want to drive really fast, you don't want to feel held by others. Conversely, if you want a more mild pace, you don't want to feel pressure to keep up with anyone else. With a big group, you can pretty much drive at the speeds you feel comfortable with.

I've gone on a good number of these type of drives, so just trying to help out and relay some of my experience about the subject.

Ok FINE I'll chime in and put in my 3 cents... but I'm not caravaning so it probably wouldnt mean anything... but It doesnt matter. Caravan as a whole group. Its much more fun and enjoyable.... just dont be idiots around other people. Be respectful let others in and out and dont BLAST pass people or cut them off. It'll be fine. Yes it'll get attention but no one will call you in if you're being respectful on the road unless you run into a BMW hater.

I suggested something but I'm open to other opinions. If the majority want to ride in a big group, then I'm ok. I just want to voice my opinion since I try to satisfy what everyone's wants (sounds awkward).. for example where to meet before heading out to SLO. I'm not dictating, but if everyone agrees on doing something, Ill follow suit.

I think the original suggestion came up cause someone said it was illegal to have a caravan of more than 5 cars and I had also suggested splitting up the big group a bit so that someone's responsible for keeping tabs on others so no one gets left behind. Well, we know it's not illegal to have more than five cars. And my suggestion, that was ONLY meant to make sure the group doesn't get dispersed from losing people at traffic lights and exiting and entering the freeway. You guys should definitely caravan as a group when you're on the freeway.

IIRC your last meeting point before getting on the road was a couple miles from the freeway which could mean multiple lights. That's where you may end up losing people but once you're all on the freeway, you'll all be in the caravan. Let's not try to over-engineer this. As long as you can figure out how to keep everyone together, that's all that matters. If someone gets caught at a light, just drive slow and they'll catch up.
