I think also, 'cause it's illegal to caravan with more than 5? CHP may do their thing...we've just been lucky so far with all our meets. I've heard of bimmerfest pull-overs.
It is NOT illegal to be part of a caravan, regardless of the number of vehicles. The only restriction is this:

California Vehicle Code 21705 (Caravans): Motor vehicles being driven outside of a business or residence district in a caravan or motorcade, whether or not towing other vehicles, shall be so operated as to allow sufficient space and in no event less than 100 feet between each vehicle or combination of vehicles so as to enable any other vehicle to overtake or pass.

In other words, just be aware of other drivers who need to change lanes "through" our caravan, for merging, passing, exiting, etc. (Don't worry, be happy! Weatherman Lee says, "Great weather forecasted for LA and San Luis Obispo on Saturday!" Woo-hoo! )

Thanks GoRovers. The cops probably pulled people over during Bimmerfest because of the huge lines of cars blockingeneral traffic. On another subject...anyone see the 101 white cars with black spots drive by on the 134 Fwy yesterday, in Burbank, by Disney...a publicity stunt for the new release of 101 Dalmatians?

Groups of five are way too small. The caravan is one of the best parts of this meet and the bigger the caravan, the better in my mind.

You can minimize people getting separated by having a few people who know where they're going at the rear of the group. Have radios at least in the front and rear of the group. Even if someone catches a redlight, the group can easily slow down and allow them to catch up or even pull over if it's permissible.

Twenty really isn't that big and certainly manageable. Even if people have signed up, there's surely to be a few no shows, so a few less than 20 is most likely.

About speed, there will be some that will want a faster pace and others who just wish to relax and take their time. The group will naturally be separated in this manner. Once the group separates on their way up to SLO, you could have designated rest stops/gas stops for everyone to reassemble.

Gas/pit stop break

I don't know what gas brands you guys use, but I use Chevron:

heres my suggestion:
CHEVRON STATION
1085 COAST VILLAGE RD
SANTA BARBARA,CA US

http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&lat=34.71...ca&q3=93405

Its half way to SLO.

You should look at a GoogleEarth image of the location and see if there are adjacent businesses with parking spots. Might be tough to pull in 20+ cars into a gas station.

I've also picked a midway point for the NorCal guys which has a McDonalds and a Chevron.

BTW, hiepsta just confirmed he's coming to the Meet. He should be added to your caravan list (Hiep/Black 545).

I found a Chevron close to a 7-11 in Carpinteria, 13.5 mi south of Santa Barbara. Check out the pics and see if it'll work.
