Ill make a final decision with the others at the LA meet area on how many cars per group
5-6 sounds good

thx Tony. On the issue of gas/restroom stop, we will probably make one stop (5 mins approximately)

Thats why WALKY-TALKIES are needed.

Something like this one below is good. We will all be on one frequency. To those experience with Valentine One and radar detectors, does a walky-talky messed up the detector?

It's cool. I talked to Vince and he said they'd be really busy tomorrow, so I'm scheduling for another day.
See you next week.

Re: walkie-talkies...even though it was summarily panned by y'all over a month ago in this thread when I first suggested it, I hereby resubmit:

GREAT idea! Barring someone bringing along 3 or 4 walkie talkie handsets all capable of communicating on the same frequency, we may have to communicate among multiple cars by:
- Three folks bring their standard 2-handset walkie talkie (WT) sets, with each unit designated as WT1a/WT1b, WT2a/WT2b, and WT3a/WT3b.
- Rear Car A uses only WT1a to talk with...
- Mid Car B, who has WT1b and WT2a, and can talk with Rear Car A and with...
- Mid Car C, who has WT2b and WT3a, and can talk with Mid Car B and
- Front Car D, who uses only WT3b to talk with Mid Car C.
A bit "Chinese fire-drillish" at times, but it'll work if all we have are pairs of dissimilar walkie talkies. Whadaya think?
What I'm bringing: pair of Motorola T5000 TalkAbout GMRS/FRS 2-way radios, with (better than .05 watt FRS) 1 watt GMRS frequencies:
Ch1 - 462.5625 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch2 - 462.5875 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch3 - 462.6125 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch4 - 462.6375 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch5 - 462.6625 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch6 - 462.6875 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch7 - 462.7125 (GMRS/FRS)
Ch15 - 462.5500 (GMRS)
Ch16 - 462.5750 (GMRS)
Ch17 - 462.6000 (GMRS)
Ch18 - 462.6250 (GMRS)
Ch19 - 462.6500 (GMRS)
Ch20 - 462.6750 (GMRS)
Ch21 - 462.7000 (GMRS)
Ch22 - 462.7250 (GMRS)

(Remaining freqs [8-14] are weaker .05 watt FRS only.)

nope.

last NorCal caravan down CHP was on us around King City (I think) and we were talking and V1 was going nuts. We just stopped for a bio-break and off he went.
