You need Synthetic Gregg. BMW recommends 10W-60 for all the E60's, but you can use 5W-30 as well. 10W-60 is not cheap though...$10 a quart, according to Diny and some other threads I read. I guess I'll find out tomorrow, after I buy that case.

Thanks Cuz...What brand do u use? Also, now that weather is getting colder, I assume 5w30 is still right?

Thanks! I always went with Castro oil in my previous cars...Some say Quakerstate too, but I like Castrol.

Castrol 10W-60. I used 5W-30 in my 530 all last winter and it was great. If you're willing to spend the money though, I would do 10W-60. Stick with what BMW recommends.

The stealer sells Castrol so I'd stick to that. As for 5w30 in the winter, I dont think it'll hurt. I've used 10w60 all year and no problems. In fact, my engine didnt consume a drop after yesterday. But different generation so I digress.

Still, check the labels in your engine bay to be sure and stick to that. You can't go wrong with factory recommendations

Before the meet when you measured your oil level...was the car cold? Oil level goes "up" when the car is warm.

Yeah I know, it was more a tounge in cheek post hahaha...I'm also have a steep driveway which probably effects it. It was just funny I hadn't seen much oil discussion before the meet and was going to mention it myself.
