Every Sunday morning, there is a very large gathering of car guys and girls at the old Oak Beach Inn (OBI) parking lot. Its the same gathering that goes to the Captree lot during the winters but the Captree lot starts charging an entry fee from Memorial Day to Labor Day so the meet moves to the OBI lot which is a few miles past the Jones Beach needle on the right hand side. You cant miss it as the turnout is consistently hundreds of cars and motorcycles. It gets so crowded that the State Police inevitably end up managing the entry and exit to the lot because it gets so congested.
You wil see anything and everything at these meets from hot rods and rat rods to classics and muscle cars to every exotic car you can think of. I've seen Bugatti's there. Enzo's, Carrera GT's, crazy Lambo's, you name it, you'll see it there. Always tons of BMW's and everything euro. Big corvette and Mustang turnout as well. It has a huge following from every car and motorcycle club imaginable. Theres always hundreds of bikers both Harley types and Jap bike types. Last summer I saw Billy Joel there on his Harley 2 Sundays in a row. I like it because its a nice drive. It starts at 7AM and goes til 11ish. The earlier the better. At 7:30, the lot is packed. I go early, spend an hour or 2 with friends, check out the cars and then leave and you dont have to waste a whole day. Weather permitting, its a weekly meet that has been going on for 20 years. Always a good time. Always something interesting to see. I sometimes bring my boys if I'm up to it. Obviously hampers the spirited driving part but fun nonetheless.
See you there

And whatever you do, watch your speed along the way to OBI. The State Police are very aware of this event every Sunday and have lookouts from all directions. They have all their hiding spots worked out and even use aircraft on some of the bridges to monitor excessive speeds. They don't mess around. How do I know? I almost got towed last summer at OBI because I was parked on the grass, not in the lot. The State Trooper wanted to make an example of me to the rest of the owners. Fortunately, he only gave me a ticket, but it was very close (they have tow trucks on standby, waiting for their call -- crazy!). They can be pretty nasty. Also, make sure you have your front plates handy and zip ties to attach, should you not have a mount. They check every car as you exit the lot.
