Yes, US born...and yes I do consider myself American. I was replying to craig's comment of "proud to be white"...
I agree that American belies no racial message, where the previous statement would, that is why I diverted to/suggested "American".
Perhaps other members here are confusing heritage and nationality...that's how/why q's referring to color versus heritage come up. Race, ethnicity, nationality, heritage always seem to be used synonymously when they should not be....the word "pinoy" should not infer color, and yet "white" does (unfortunately)...
I don't think I am confusing anything...as my nationality is "American" and my heritage is "Filipino/Pinoy".
Then there are also the sub-sets/terms as: Filipino-American, Mexican-American, etc....

Gene, I was right there with you agreeing.......until the final sentence. There are no subsets. Those terms are made up to make racists feel beter about themselves.
Pride of heritage is a birthright - regardless of color, you have every right to be proud of your lineage. I just have always had a problem with hyphenating American. I detest those that try to make me somehow less of an American simply because my parents weren't born here. I am proud to be an AMERICAN veteran and as such have demonstrated clearly where my loyalties lie.
(besides when I tell most people my parents are from Chile they are like - "what? where's that?" - DAMN our public schools!!!!)
