Happened to me today. I was filling up my 5 when this guy came to ask me if I could spare him 9 gallons his mother is sick and he needs to get to her house and she lives 100 miles away and he don't have a job anymore. I felt bad for the guy so I filled up 9 gallons for him. I filled up $40 worth of gas for him.
I am watching a tv show on ABC right now "What would you do" and the same topic is on the show.....strangers asking for gas from other strangers. The person had a 30% success rate in getting gas from others.

You did good in the karma account and your kind and innocent act is inspirational to me. I truly believe I would not have done the good deed b/c I've been conned many moons ago so my shield is up at all times. When it comes down to it, i think it depends very much what your experience has been in life and what kind of card the world has dealt you. The same question/approach will likely yield different results when presented itself in a different time and in a different place.
Again, you did a great deed, buddy!

i stopped at the gas station today with my bro. as i was filling up, he went to go inside to get something. some guy stopped him and asked for gas money. so my bro gave him 5 bucks. the guy then walked back to his buddy's car, and took off without putting in gas. f**k that a-hole.
