its so stupid.
I work with somone who used to work at NORAD. she said they actually take it very seriously. what a joke.
to be honest though, the people answering the phones are people just like me, Gov employees/contractors/military sitting at work tonight, with not much to do because it is christmas eve but someone has to be here. if i had to handle a few hundred phone calls myself tonight, it would make an otherwise horribly boring evening pass by quickly.
I am gonna talk to the satellite guys tonight about this, see what they know or if it has any real impact to what our focus should be. fighting two wars and national security

when i was in iraq, out unit flew Recon missions, many times resulting in ZERO benifit to the war effort (towards the end of our stay for a lot of different reasons), at a cost of $18,000 of fuel per aircraft, per day.... oh yeah... TIMES 6!
