Walt Mossberg's review of Windows 7 is in today's Wall St Journal. Walt is generally a big Apple guy, but he likes Windows 7 and says that the gap he saw between Mac OS X and Windows is essentially closed.

"In recent years, I, like many other reviewers, have argued that Apple?s Mac OS X operating system is much better than Windows. That?s no longer true. I still give the Mac OS a slight edge because it has a much easier and cheaper upgrade path; more built-in software programs; and far less vulnerability to viruses and other malicious software, which are overwhelmingly built to run on Windows.

Now, however, it?s much more of a toss-up between the two rivals. Windows 7 beats the Mac OS in some areas, such as better previews and navigation right from the taskbar, easier organization of open windows on the desktop and touch-screen capabilities. So Apple will have to scramble now that the gift of a flawed Vista has been replaced with a reliable, elegant version of Windows."

nice! well competiton, when you feel there's competition, is usually a good thing that drives innovation, so perhaps this will nudge Apple to take that next big step that Mr windows cant even imagine today.

I have been using it for 6+ months... I've been saying it here for a while now, this OS is for real.

+1

MS did away with some features that many people found annoying with Vista and third party vendors have had plenty of time to write good code for their apps and drivers. I deal with alot of OS "specialists" and they all say the same thing - Windows 7 is just a re-badged Vista SP2.

Just have to wait and see......

Again, 6+ months using Windows 7.

Again, no issues... and that's with 64 bit OS and drivers.

Again, wonderful OS.

The Windows 7 RC builds pre-dated Vista SP2. SP2 is nice, but it's missing a lot of what makes Windows 7 so special.
