Its too easy for people to gather info on you sitting in the comfort of their home in front of the computer.

Seeing one thread or two will not give them enough info but if they gather EVERYTHING that I or an individual have posted then it can be lethal.

What made me stop was a few years ago I forget what thread... might have been an RX7 thread that some guy got his modded RX7 stolen right out of his driveway because the thief gathered enough info off the messageboard and was able to locate his house and just walk away with his car in his driveway. I like to prevent that from happening to me.

I love to show my plates as I too have Vanity plates and they're very worth sharing... but I wont online. Those that have seen my car in person can tell ya, its cool. Speedracer has seen it, rody, blackon blackonblack, central cali just to name a few.

When they show peoples cars on the news here in Germany, the plate is always blotted out for privacy reasons.

Hey all,
Since joining here, I have been wondering what is the purpose of blotting out your registration plate number when you post a picture of your car (assuming it is YOUR car).

As a former deputy commissioner of NYS DMV, I can't imagine any privacy, much less security reason for doing so. Please tell me....

Cheers,
Ray Hull
It's the same as hiding his/her given name on the forum

I wouldnt give any of you my home address, name, telephone number, when i bought the car, how i bought it etc etc etc so hiding the plate is just the obvious thing to do.

Plus im not sure if BMW read this forum which is always a consideration.

my wife works for the government, so we had the option to block out our plates thru dmv.
it's actually sad that we have to be this vigilant regarding our privacy.

oh yeah, guess what my plate says!
I give up. Maybe, Lex and Domino. OK, Lax and Amino.

I don't worry, but I usually just blur out the plates. Anyway - anyone could easily get ahold of my cell phone number, name, home address and so forth...

Hmmm, A lot of unfounded fears here.

Maybe we ought to view this forum in perspective: It is rather esoteric, and its subject has our "registration" plates permanenetly attached.

Suit yourselves; but, try not to live in fear.
