My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Hey all,
Since joining here, I have been wondering what is the purpose of blotting out your registration plate number when you post a picture of your car (assuming it is YOUR car).
As a former deputy commissioner of NYS DMV, I can't imagine any privacy, much less security reason for doing so. Please tell me....
Cheers,
Ray Hull

I don't know, but all I have to say is:
I think the answers you'll get will be along the lines of simply wanting to err on the side of personal privacy: why give someone a tool to potentially use for malicious reasons, or harass someone with, etc.
Personally, I couldn't possibly care less if someone knows my plates.

For me, it is to maintain maximum annonymity primarily because there are many out there. And, sometimes some of them get mad at others on forums--which happened to me once with a wacho that lived in the same area.

I wonder about it too. Personally, it never bothered me to show my plate online. I see many plates on the road and on TV (news) everyday, so what can happen?
Anyways, if you see me zooming around L.A.'s freeways, give me a honk

Would you use your residential address in your sig?
In some countries, that type of info can easily be gained from your licence plate.
And as has already been said, the information super-highway is a lot more dangerous than your local highway.

Hey Cobradav,
Seeing your cars made me want to sing:
Ouviram do Ipiranga as margens pl?cidas
De um povo her?ico o brado retumbante.
E o sol da Liberdade em raios f?lgidos,
Brilhou no c?u da P?tria nesse instante.
And to call a few people to play soccer.
