You've made no substantive points other than the mistaken contention that metric measurement is necessarily more accurate than imperial. 1esquire also noted that this wasn't the case.

ok im tired of arguing about measurements, school gives me enough of that, i go on the internet to get away from it, you believe what you want, i believe what i want, i just think that accuracy doesnt necessarily have to mean "free from error" and can also mean less prone to error, which in fact is true in smaller increments of measurment.

You'll find no push back from me on which system is easier to use, that's clearly the metric system. My primary contention was that each one is just as precise and just as capable of precision as the other.

Great, it's resolved. i<3e60 is going to use his own made up definition of the word "accurate" to support his position, and swajames will acknowledge that metric is easier to use, but not more accurate using the generally accepted international definition of the term.

we can all hug now.

NO! It's not a matter of hugging or not, and you can argue semantics as long as you want. Truth be told as i pointed earlier, mathematically speaking Xmm is more accurate than Y.Z(U)inches. Period! Please give a proper mathematical argument against this.

Maybe i may be wrong, maybe my math is rusty but i remember period numbers (eg. 1.23432(2) ) being numbers with infinite decimals. Infinity is no where near accurate! Can you pin point infinity?

Right now, I'd say it is where this thread is headed...

I understand your point that 3 of something is more "accurate" than 2.9999 repeating of something, but only if it repeats to infinity, which not every decimal does. Afterall, 250 mm is .0250 meters, right (or some decimal variation there of)? so, the fact that there is something to the right of a decimal point does not indicate a lack of accuracy.

In addition, the decimals only really come up when you are converting from one to the other using some standard. If I take a measurement with a ruler, I am not going to say it is 2.999 repeating.

Because the converse is equally true. One imperial unit, or any whole number of imperial units, may equally translate to fractions of a metric unit.

When describing a constant measurement, is 1 inch any more or any less accurate than 25.4 millimeters? Or 0.0254 meters? Or 2.54?10[sup]-5[/sup] kilometers?
