Assume nothing you say or do on the Internet is private.
I'm not disturbed by this for the obvious reasons... that someone might tattle, or that we might alter our behavior as a result of a "big brother" culture. I'm concerned that simply inviting people to tattle gives the government a plausible alternative theory to explain how it gains sensitive information about people in the future. (as opposed to confessing to unlawful information gathering)
Truthfully, I think it was just a dopey attempt by some WH staffer to:
-appear like the WH is open to debate with the public
-be able to plug into grassroots dialog faster
-appear proactive to liberal supporters who might not think the WH is defending its position effectively
