3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO
EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.
A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO
HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.
ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN
3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.
THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF
$27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.
WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Haha... a well plotted diversion!
Here's what happens next day:
The following day two men go and stay at the same hotel and pay $30 and go off to their room. As the manager again forgot that the price is only $25, he sends off the bellboy with $5 to give back to the three men. Now, being greedy, the bellboy reckons there is a nice business in this and decides to keep $3 for himself and subsequently gives $2 back to the men.
The three men have now paid $30-$2=$28. The bellboy has $3 in his pockets, equalling $31. A bl***y expensive hotel, that is!
Can I have my dollar back now, please?

Nice diversion.
Just isolate each payment to avoid the confusion.
3 men first paid 10 each which equates to 30.
Then, each got a dollar back from the bellboy. So in total they paid 27.
Room costs 25, hence, there is 2 left for the bellboy.

Also to prove I have 11 fingers is easy too. Count backwards 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 on one hand. We know the other hand has 5 fingers so 6 + 5 = 11.
