So I give PS3 the edge slightly over Xbox and Wii should be for kids 12 and under.

I am of the view that WII is very different from the other 2.
If high res games are important to you and you want to play things like PGR4, COD4, Rainbow Six Vegas, Assassin's Creed, etc.....this experience is only available on xbox or PS3. WII is super fun but very different.
We've got a WII, xbox, xbox 360, Game Cube, Nintendo DS, PSP, and a ton of games for each platform (for the kids of course ), but won't be adding a PS3 to the list. Xbox 360 has better games, was cheaper and beat Sony to market by one year. No reason to get one. Sony was "a day late and a dollar short" IMO.
If you are buying your first gaming console, and trying to decide between 360 and PS3, I would make the choice based on the selection of games each has. Both systems are great and now that PS3 prices have come down, they are pretty similar. The only negative with 360 is it runs hot - I have extra fans, but it's unacceptably loud if it's not in an enclosure/rack of some type.

I have 360, PS3, and Wii. I play the 360 the most by far, however I would say the PS3 is the best buy. As someone mentioned above the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player and for $399 it is almost the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there. Also it is a PS3 which has the best hardware of the three machines.
Xbox currently is the best system because of it's game library, but I would suggest the PS3 for anyone considering buying a console. It already has amazing games on it and has many more coming out in the near future.
Wii is fun for like 20 mins and then it just feels like a gimmick to me, with one exception: Super Mario Galaxy.
Also Rock Band is SICK for anyone considering buying this game do it!

but i don't know if i ever will detach from PC gaming since i dunno for instance it would be so weird to use the game pad and not the mouse in FPS like CoD4. .
I used to feel the same way for sure....

Wii.
Why did I buy one? Because the first time I played one, a feeling returned that I hadn't felt in a long time. It felt like I was playing video games for the first time again.

Don't agree sorry ... the Wii is a great gaming system for adults and kids, especially adults with no previous gaming experience.

+1, though I also have a PS3. The Wii gets much more use (we use the PS3 mainly as a DVD/Blu Ray player)

Agree, I have both also (PS3 and Wii). The PS3 gets more use as a blue ray player. The Wii on the other hand gets a lot of use. Its fun having friends over for a dinner party and seeing all the drunken adults play tennis and bowling on the Wii. It gets very rowdy sometimes.
