My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets. First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Thumbs up

Does anyone know how we arrived at E60 from E39, etc?

Given the Teutonic regimen of series/engine badging, I fugured there must be some logic to the numbering pattern for the various series.

Cheers,
Leo Fibonacci

Cannot say that there is a "logic" but the numbers come from sequential effort on BMWs part as they work various prototypes and production vehicles.

If you mean like 530i, then the "i" stands for "injection".

That's NOT a subject of laughter, Don: In the late 1980s, I was told that my 87 535iS, in Europe, was considered the terrorist bomber's car of choice. This reputation arose from the car's ability to withstand a trunk full of explosives, without showing any suspension "squat."

No joke; this came from an Army intelligence officer friend of mine.

Now, on to those refs mentioned above.
Thx,
Ray Hull

Very cool. So the next all new 5er will be coded F10 and will be introduced in 2010, likely as a model year 2011. Makes sense.
