To answer your original question, Ping: I've driven and ridden in too many Russian cars to be scared of anything, except maybe a plane whose engines went out. The top honor would prolly go to my father's best friend's '77 Corvette though - it was put together with shoestrings and bondo in the Soviet times and at the time I was "getting a ride" in it, the brakes weren't exactly functioning, so it was disconcerting - to say the least.
BTW almost all people who ride with me in my car request a puking bag at some point
