Craig, try this Cross knot next time. It will use more of the blade and make the knot a bit thicker without looking like half a grapefruit up there. You're only a couple of inches taller than me, so it shouldn't make much difference. By tall, I was referring to some of the ex-NBA guys on ESPN. If they buy off the rack, they're screwed. Also, remember that the tip of the front blade should be just about even with the top of your belt buckle. If it's much longer, you'll use more of the back and get a skinny knot. Try to buy woven rather than printed ties as they are bulkier and hold a knot better. In case anyone is curious, I have a side business.

thanks. i usually do the windsor as i like the symmetry (spelling). i always have the end of the tie over my belt buckle, usually ending in the middle of my belt buckle. i also usually wear the solid colored silkish material as i think it looks sharper and more professional with a white shirt and tailored suit. if i dont feel like donning the jacket i will mix it up with colored shirts and patterned ties. many days i wont wear a full suit as it is 90+ in the summer here. i think i understand what you mean by woven ties, they seem thicker and are not as silky. i usually get a pretty good sized knot using a windsor which works well with my spread collar shirts. i cant seem to get a good sized knot for a spread collar with the silky ties.
