The speakeasy site seems to report things very accurately for me on many different connections. My FiOS connection is 15 down/2 up and the test results indicate that pretty accurately.

At home (yes I have three connections)...
6Mb/768k
1Mb/1Mb
128k/128k
At work...
Tier 1 connections to the Internet.

Heh - I've had an OC3 in my lab since 1999 or 2000.
At home it's just Comcast. Good enough.
PS... when I feel like using OS X, I just dust off my old NEXT Turbo Color Slab.

Hey m630, at work I'm getting 100mbps too. Yah for UPS!
Heh - they're probably smart enough to cache the speed test locally.
Try to perform an HTTP header reflection to see if you're going through a proxy. I used to know a site that allowed you to do this, but I haven't had luck finding any lately... probably because people use them to gauge the anonimity of open proxies now.

UUronL, I think Heiss5 is seeing the 100 speed on the NIC connection like in the picture m630 posted earlier. If that was the indicator of speed, then I'm at 1000!
daydok, I'm using Verizon's FiOS service which uses fiber optics all the way to my house (instead of running fiber down the street like the cable companies do.)
You can learn more about FiOS by clicking here:

Rudy, where are you? I've been wanting to hook my parents up with that. They are in 15241 - they say there has been a lot of Verizon work in the area lately, but their address still isn't showing up as available in the FIOS online tool.
