The next BMW 5-series will abandon the part-aluminium construction of the current model in favour of an all-steel chassis when it is launched next year, Autocar has discovered. The change is being made for reasons of cost and ease of manufacture. The 5-series uses an aluminium space frame front end, bonded and riveted to a steel rear. It was developed to provide better weight distribution and to cut weight.

Audi's extensive use of aluminium and other light materials in vehicle construction is set to continue with the next generation S5 Coupe. Speaking to Car and Driver, Audi's global head of product engineering Michael Dick said the 2014 S5 will lose up to 880 pounds (399kg) compared to the car we see on the streets right now.

that is bad news they it will weight about the same as MB or more

our e60 now is about the same as the 3er E9x so the new 1 will not handle that well if it is much heaver.

weight was the last thing on my mind, i was thinking of the interior and stuff
E class is about 80-100kg more than an E60.
we shall see if the F10 actually gets heavier, cos the engine and even suspension bits and bobs are alloy
and not just the front bits.

I light the interior apart from the seats and the cup holders.
seat are not that good of a design and cup holders are the most wast of time in the world for BMW. they mite as well not put them in and give us a discount

yes those cup holders get in the way of someone getting on on the passenger side, and too small for soft drinks,
i would like a proper armrest and somewhere you can put something and also the door bins are too shallow and thin,
standard steering wheels-might as well be like the normal M tech and then the M tech like the M5.....
option of "M" calipers and discs, optional Gruppe M type intakes, they would make me buy tomorrow...
