And it was a great! But ... not only was the vacation great but driving too and from my location in the 545i was a blast! It was hard to keep it under 80 mph, atleast on the way there. After putting about 1200 miles on the car this week my average mpg was 23.5 on the way there with an average speed of 61 mph and 23.0 mpg on the way back with an average speed of 49 mph. Much more traffic in the way back in certain areas. On the way back I took 495 around Washington, DC and boy is that highway twisty! Too bad there was much traffic to fully enjoy it but those of you in that area probably know what I mean.
The grin on my face can not be wiped away. It was my first long road trip in the 545 and... ahhhhh.... if you haven't taken a long road trip.. take one but take the E60 and not a minivan or SUV!

Yeah, exactly !
Since I have my e60 I've been on long road trips three times and will go on at least two more this year. Usually (before I got the e60) I only had two longer road trips per year.
Driving this car is more than just sheer driving pleasure !

Lomag: You are soooo right re: I495. I haven't had the pleasure yet in the E60, but the E39 stuck to it like glue! It was so strange when my car was in for service and I had to drive a loaner boat back home. The boat felt like it was scared on that highway; night and day difference! That road is a racetrack! Mucho twisties.

Aside from the 7 or so hour drive I had from the Performance Center to my home, I purposely scheduled a business trip about 4 hours away from home a week or so after I got the car. The combination of those two trips put me past my break-in miles toward the end of the first leg of the 4 hour business trip. I don't need to tell you that the return home from that trip was significantly more exciting than the one heading away from home!
This Thursday, I'll be driving about 5 hours or so to Indianapolis to participate in a two-day "AMG Challenge" on the F1 course at the Speedway. (See my earlier post on this subject)
Lomag, you've pumped me up for the drive to and from!!
