Sometimes, living in this fishbowl called the "U.S." I tend to forget that not everyone speaks, reads and writes fluent English.

So everytime I see someone post from Helsinki, Hong Kong, Mexico, or wherever, and post in English, darn good English I might add, not only am I impressed, but a bit jealous.

I know, just personally, I would not be able to go onto an E60 board in Spain, for example, and post in Spanish or one hosted in Japan and post in Japanese. Heck, I couldn't even go on a Spanish board and read it, much less post on it.

So a big kudos to all of our international members.

Warm regards and happy holidays.

Well said--America is the most egocentric country, and most of us don't realize how lucky we are--in many ways--not the least of which is that English is the de facto international language.

I think it should be a "salad bowl" instead?
Anyhew, very well said. Trying to learn many mainstream languages such as Spanish, French, Chinese, and German, I found English is the easiest language to learn in the world. That's why it's so popular. No genre like French and Spanish, no long word like German, and no pronouncable like Chinese.
Thank you to whoever invent English language.

The thing is, for people who uses the web to find information (that's how I got to this site) are most likely people who are good in english so I don't think is a surprise that international members write good english, this is an U.S. site after all.

But being an English colony for some time, most people in Hong Kong knows english although not fluent. All my friends who doesn't speak Chinese say there's no problem roaming around in Hong Kong because most people speak some english, but couldn't say the same about other countries like Japan or Korea or even China.

English is a second language in most countries. Coming from a foreign country , I remember learning English at school from first grade (intensively). Therefore, many people from foreign countries are fluent in English as well as their first language. you do have a good point I tend to forget how fortunate I am to know more than 1 language.
Never too late to learn a new language...Take on a challenge

happy holiday
