Quite true, but there have reportedly still been 14,000 requests from UK residents for an e-mail address of a US citizen in this campaign. Again, everyone from Europe who I have discussed this wish quickly brushes it aside. I would wager a handsome sum of money that the if the roles were reversed, it would not be so quickly brushed aside by our European friends.

I'd personnaly find it hilarious at best if someone was emailing me directly to influence my vote.
The one thing that bugs me the most, is that to me voting is such a private matter. If in a democracy the will of the people prevails, than why try to influence the will of the people? Wouldn't it be a lot better if nobody discussed their preferences and just quitely voted?

Um... the US is not a Democracy... we are a Republic.

I'm sure you would find it funny Fred, but many people don't. It is viewed is meddling in someone else's business. As you point out, it is a private matter for us, not something that UK citizens should be trying to influence. If you're not willing to at least concede that there would a quite vocal reaction from the UK media and talking heads (politicians) if the roles were reversed, that's fine. And while I am very much aware that the Guardian is in the business of selling papers (thanks for pointing that out), I quite sure that the same editors who are driving this campaign would be screaming bloody murder if the NY Times were pulling a similar stunt to get Blair elected. I know I'm beating a dead (and essentially meaningless) horse, but it's the principal. My ranting is now done, I will drop the subject in favor of a more enjoyable subject, our cars!
