Really this isn't expensive ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
If you go customize yourself for a Mac Pro at max you'll pass this price tag by a considerable amount.

The hardware is very cheep but its the software licensing costs that hits the roof.

Yawn. If you need this power, you're likely betting your business on it. That means you don't buy something without a pedigree.
You buy Crossbeam, or you buy Egenera. Heck, Sun has a decent solution, and the various Bladecenter offerings aren't terrible either.

No no no i was just talking about enthusiasts...like the article said if you need "a lil" more punch for your average work computer you might consider this...
And it is, after i threw like 7-8k in my new rig...12 more and i would have had a 40 CPU rig

Nah! If you really need performance, go with IBM's Power 6 lineup, either AIX or Red Hat Linux. Their top scientific system is a 32 core 4.7ghz server. It rates at 730 gigaflops per SPEC. The top business system is the 64 core, 5.0ghz P595. It can have up to 4TB of memory. Yes, 4 terabytes!! It will cost a bit more than $20,000. FYI, it smashed the TPC-C record at 6 million. The top 128 core HP Superdome is only 4 million.
Again, depends what you're doing. You're talking supercomputing. I was talking virtualization.
