Any way you could plead out in probate/traffic court? You will still probably have to pay the fine, but at least you won't get the points on your license.
I will do defensive driving for one and deferred adjudication for the other. The deferred means I pay the fine plus $70 extra then get 90 days probation to keep clean. Bottom line, the courts just want the money.

I wish it was just bad luck, but I knew better. A radar detector is not very effective on an open road where you cannot pick up hits on other cars (ticket 1). The second was not realizing the 55 was all of the time, not just when workers were present in a construction area. Only me to blame.

1. I mistakenly thought the construction zone 55 only applied when workers were working. Wrong. Got hit by laser which gave basically no warning.

2. I am convinced the second one was because I was in a BMW as there were plenty of other people around me going as fast if not faster.
1. Bummer ... lower speed limits are an artificial restriction when work is not being done. But they are absolutely necessary during work phases. I wouldn't want to have stand a few inches away from or try to dodge a 65mph car (even if it isn't a Dodge!).
2. Speed detection technology automatically adds 10mph when locked onto a BMW. 15MPH if it's a RED BMW! My experience has been, if 10 vehicles are traveling 10+ over the posted limit down the same piece of road at the same time, the BMW will be singled out as the speeder!

The best time to try and get out of a violation for speeding is at the stop. And police officers don't want a debate about right and wrong they want you to be apologetic for the infraction, no matter what the facts are. (Yes, Radar and Laser Detection isn't always 100% correct and is subject to user and other errors.) One of my favorite sayings, "I don't want to confuse you with the facts if you've already made up your mind!"

Last observation - IMHO, in the US, large gas guzzling SUV's have far too much immunity from speeding violations.
But that's another forum!

For many states, you only get fined for speeding in a construction zone when workers are present. I guess TX isn't one of them.

In Texas fines can be double in construction zones.

Ouch!!! I wasn't aware of the construction thing applied all the time, buckle up..that's gonna be expensive. In NJ your situation would cost several thousand $. Those speeds while technically over the limit are commonplace here and pretty much everywhere, but in some areas and towns I'll still set my cruise control and crawl. Do what you can to minimize the damage.

If workers present, then the fine would have been double. The cost for me to plead deferred adjudication on one will be the $180 fine plus $70 court costs and the judge will give me 90 days probation. The cost to do defensive driving will be $105 court costs plus $35 for the course. Reasonably inexpensive for my day of stupidity. I have had two speeding tickets in my 51 years, then two in one day. One court gives $180 days probation, so that is the court that I will do defensive driving for. Texas Law states a minimum of 90 and a max of 180 days probation then nothing goes on the record. Oh, well.
