Track strategy, windows up or down ?

I wondered whether (in a sedan/saloon car) having all 4 windows fully up, and thus raising the centre of gravity, isn't such a good strategy. Yes having the windows up reduces drag, but it's going to increase drift and body roll in a corner. Maybe when you're going straight have the windows up and as you come to a corner you put them all down. The drag will help braking and reduce CoG for the corner.

Another crazy thought I had while watching back-to-back top gear episodes in my sick bed

Yes, that is a safety requirement so that emergency crews can get in the car quickly in a bad accident.

They only exception I've been given was a hard rain. We were allowed windows up for that session.

Windows up for me I like having arms, if you roll on the track with the windows down you may lose em. I know the glass will probably break but its better that the glass not being there at all.
