I just got pulled over for tint on my front windows (35%). Has anyone else gotten ticketed in Santa Clara County for this? Do I have the option of just paying a fine without having to go through the trouble of removing the tint, getting the ticket signed off and then having the tint reapplied?

I got pulled over in Sunnyvale for anyone who was curious.

I guess this is the risk we run having our front windows tinted in CA

Keeping my fingers crossed here in LA.

A couple of years ago I got a "fix it" ticket for the windows... removed the tint, had the ticket signed off and then had tint installed again.

What happens when you take your car in for inspection?

you're supposed to correct whatever issue you have so the Popo's can sign off that everything is ok according to the law.

Gotta have it removed bro.

I've heard of some people taking the car back to the original installer of the after market tint and recieving a discount for the un-install/re-install of the front windows. Call around and just ask questions. Tint shops love the extra cash that law brings in for them.

Technically, you don't have to correct the fix it ticket. However, that $10 ticket will most likely turn into a $500 fine - that's how they get you ("penalties" and "administrative fees"). Bunch of f*ckin' thieves.....My recommendation is to take it off, get the ticket signed off, and pay the $10. I think a point also goes on your record. It's not worth it....GL!

damn..sorry to hear this bro.. I hate Sunnyvale cops.. I work in Sunnyvale and they always seem to be setting up speed traps on El Camino at lunch time.. Where exactly did you get pulled over if you don't mind, so I know where to avoid? Did you get pulled over just for the windows, or was it speeding or something and then got you for tint as well? If you need a tint shop to ask about removal price, try Extreme Tint in Santa Clara http://www.extremetint.com/

just pay the ticket and keep the tint. the occasional ticket is a premium for having tinted windows in some states

I'm amazed. I thought it was almost compulsory to have all windows (except the windshield) tinted in Cali. Never figured it was against the law (like it is here in Germany too).

I didn't tint mine, not because I'm scared of getting pulled over, more that I'm scared my insurance won't pay out and I have to have my car inspected every 2 years. It's just not worth the hassle (and bankruptcy in the case of an accident where the insurance blame the tint).
