That's a great idea V. I think this would make a perfect remote controller. I think there is a device called Pear. It's made to sync with all media devices and is actually in a shape of a pear. LOL. Pretty neat...

This iPad is said to be twice as fast, with a better processor and should be able to give a better all around user experience, particularly with gaming.

I held off on getting the first one, but now I think this would be a good time to pick one up. I just wished it has retina display, like the sibling iphone4.

Yep, Sonos is awesome with an iPad. DirecTV just launched an excellent iPad app too. This device is rapidly turning into the home entertainment hub and controller in one. It is the apps that make it - and the best of the apps are iPad exclusive. Not bad for a "big iPod", eh?

Flash = Fail.

Here's just part of the proof! The other part stands with all the security issues.

And because of the Apple success with iOS look what Adobe did !

In maximum 5-10 years Flash will be a sad and pitiful reminder of what fail means in IT.

Yeah, maybe, but today, IN FACT, it is still "NO Flash=FAIL". But before we get into a heated discussion about this without first finding out the facts, can someone confirm there will be no Flash support on iPad 2?

exactly.

what pisses me off about apple is how they want to control what everyone uses. let me make the decision if i want flash or not.

I decided to look into this a little more, after posting my previous comment (I actually felt bad about it). I found this article on PcPro.co.uk, which stated, among other things, the actual reason Flash is not supported by iPad and iPhone. I quote the article:

Apple v Flash: war is declared
Personally the scales fell from my eyes when, the day before the launch of Adobe?s Creative Suite 5, Apple announced that it was changing its terms of service to ban third-party development tools. This deliberately hostile act completely undercut what should have been the star capability of the new Flash Professional CS5, its ability to produce native iOS apps. You could still produce them, but now there was no point as the only way to get apps through to end users is through the App Store which Apple controls, and now the company had unilaterally banned any apps that were in any way associated with Flash.
A tweak to Apple?s terms of service might again sound trivial but I was astonished and appalled. How could you possibly justify not supporting any means of writing native iOS applications? It meant that Apple was willing to deny its users choice and functionality and was willing to fight very dirty to damage Flash and to keep it off its devices.
The obvious question was: why?
The answer is simple: follow the money.
Why Apple hates Flash #1: Apps
Crucially, Apple doesn?t only make its profits from its devices. It also earns plenty of revenue from native iOS apps that are only available via the App Store. Of course many of these are free but, when they aren?t, Apple takes a non-negotiable 30% of the price paid. Imagine the sort of money that Microsoft would have gained if it had taken 30% of every Windows application ever sold.
The danger for Apple would be if there was another way to deliver rich app-style functionality and deliver it outside of its App Store and, worst of all, deliver it independently of its devices. Step forward the cross-platform Flash and Silverlight players and the future of rich cloud-based computing based on browser-hosted Rich Internet Applications (RIAs).

While I don't mind paying for apps at all, I really wish there was no limitations to the content I'm able to view online. This prompted me to continue looking, and I soon found an article stating that in iPad 2 vs Xoom battle, Xoom is the "clear winner". Here's what I want to point out from that article:

Xoom, of course, will be able to play Flash relatively soon. The iPad 2 will never do it. Clearly, being able to run Flash is better than being banned from running Flash.

When you buy an iPad 2, you'll be subject to the whims of what Apple wants you to download and doesn't want you to download. Want to be able to get information from the WikiLeaks site using an app, for example? Don't try doing it on your iPad 2 --- Apple has banned any app from letting you do that. It bans plenty of other apps as well. With the Xoom, you can download and use any app you want.

Finally, the Xoom's built-in apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Calendar still trump anything built into the iPad 2. and using the Xoom's Tegra 2 chip, you get nifty new features, such as vector graphics and 3D rendering in Google Maps.

And of course, there's this:

Wallaby, a brand-new tool from Adobe Labs, aims to help the iPad and its iOS brethren manage the once-taboo multimedia format. The free, cross-platform desktop application, available today, makes transforming Adobe Flash files into iOS-appropriate HTML5 as easy as drag and drop...

I find it rather comical that some can actually accuse Apple of limiting access and point back to Xoom and microsoft, as if microsoft has not been and alweays will be the gorilla that locks down access within windows to the point that its been sued and lost all around the world, way back to the IE vs Netscape and on and on. Its a joke that people point to Flash as a comparision. Flash is old tech, just get over it already. It is not optimized for mobile devices, its power/resource hungry and will be replaced by html5 and the like. When Xoom sells 20million units, perhaps one can tout it success or it advancement over the iPad, but that aint happening, applw will have sold 100million by the time that occurs.
If you don't like apple or the iPad, so be it, but don't rag on it out of fear of you sacred windows OS, its the true weakness in the ms equation. Apple innovates and MS copies, just like old times, again.

There have been many supposed iPod, iPhone and now iPad "killers". The internet has a habit of hyping up these devices and declaring that they somehow beat the comparable iOS device. The pattern from this point on is all too familiar. Many of those supposed iDevice killers don't even make it to market, many if not most of them that do suffer from mediocre sales.

The Xoom is the latest in this long line of pretenders, and it will go the same way as its predecessors. It is the ecosystem that sells and makes the iOS devices what they are. There are probably close to 400,000 iOS apps, and close to a quarter of them are iPad native. This is, coupled with elegant hardware, a proper tablet OS and true usability is why they sell. The Xoom lacks the ecosystem, is a "me-too" device that doesn't differentiate itself, and it's more expensive than the iPad.

The Xoom can't support Flash today. It is supposedly "coming". Even when it does, it will join a long line of mobile devices with utterly mediocre support for an archaic technology. Having mediocre Flash support is categorically *not* better than having no Flash support. Why? Not being able to lazily rely on Flash has meant that iOS developers have to build apps that are designed from the ground up to run on iOS and take advantage of the features of the device, not the feature set of an old technology such as Flash. As m630 noted, Adobe's release of Wallaby is tacit acknowledgement that iOS is where its developers tell them they need to be.

Oh, and Skele, I'm reliably informed that there is a veritable ton of porn that you can view natively right on the iPad. This is an industry that above all follows the money And the money is in iOS. Grab an iPad and knock yourself out ( or should that be knock one out)
